~ Frequently Asked Questions ~
You’ve made an appointment…What Now?![]()
You and your pet will be greeted upon arrival for your first appointment. While your pet looks around and gets comfortable we will ask you to provide us with some basic information. We will need to have your contact information, your pet's history, veterinarian's name and any health or behaviour issues we need to be aware of. Your pet's personal groomer will then examine your pet and discuss grooming needs with you. Once grooming needs have been decided on, your pet will be treated to his or her own
"spa day"!
How long will my pet's grooming take?![]()
This all depends on the individual pet. Coat condition, age, temperament, breed and style are all relevant factors. When we meet with you and your pet we can discuss any relevant issues, as each client is different. Our main concern is the welfare of your pet while in our care and to make it an enjoyable experience for them.
Sedation?![]()
We do not sedate any animals per Washington State Law. I am willing to groom sedated animals provided previous notice is given and appropriate vet info is provided.
Will my pet be muzzled?![]()
We very seldom find it necessary to muzzle a dog as we have very effective restraint systems. However, dogs that show signs of aggression or biting/licking at the clippers & or scissors will be muzzled for their safety and ours.
Some cats require the use of a "mask". This "mask" not only muzzles the cat but helps to relax the cat because it also covers the eyes. This makes the experience less stressful for the cat and safer for the groomer. Think of "hooding a hawk; the same theory applies to cats.
Can I bring some treats with my dog?![]()
Yes. We always encourage owners to bring a few treats to reward their dog. You are also welcome to bring one of your dog’s favourite toys or blanket to help him feel more at home.
Can I stay with my pet?![]()
This is usually not a good idea as to get the full co-operation of the pets we must have their undivided attention. Most pets behave much better without ”Mom & Dad“ there to distract them. We will, however, be happy to show you around our shop. Customers can come and have a look in the grooming salon at any time, as long as their pets are not distracted. If a difficulty with a pet arises the owner will be called at once.
Appointments can be arranged with owner present for special cases.![]()
Will my pet be put in a cage?![]()
Most animals are connected to various "tie-outs" located throughout the shop. They seem to enjoy the extra room to move around and ability to "supervise" the goings on.
We do on occassion use kennels. For instance, some dogs react badly to blow dryers but take right to a kennel dryer. If we have a large number of dogs in the shop at one time, some may be kenneled for their own safety and comfort.
We have different size kennels for different size animals. Most kennels provide full view of the grooming salon and what’s going on. For safety reasons we can not let the dogs run loose but we like the dogs to socialize in the grooming salon and enjoy the good atmosphere.
Cats are generally brought to the shop in a carrier and will be returned to their kennel when the grooming is completed.
Does the groom include nails and anal glands?![]()
Grooming always includes trimming the nails. Expressing the anal glands is typically included if needed. The only exception to this would be dogs that become overly aggressive or panicked to the point where it would be unsafe for us to provide either of these services.
What information do you ask for when I drop my pet off?![]()
Required information includes your name, contact details, pet's name, breed, age, any health & behaviour information and veterinarian. I can forward you the information form ahead of time to streamline your check-in.
Do you groom large breeds?![]()
YES! We love big dogs!
We are always happy to work with such breeds as Newfoundlands, St. Bernards, Great Danes, Mastiffs and all the other large breeds most groomers turn away. The larger and hairier the dog the more time will be needed. Prices may vary for some giant breeds such as Newfoundlands and St Bernards based on condition of coat.
When should I start getting my Puppy groomed?![]()
As soon as a puppy has completed at least two of its vaccinations it should start making regular visits to the grooming salon.
How much will it cost?![]()

Additional charges may apply for:

Please call us as far in advance as possible. We make very effort to run as tight a schedule as we can and therefore, missed appointments throw a real wrench into the works. We do maintain a cancellation list and can usually fill those missed appointments, but only if we know ahead of time. Repeated missed appointments may result in a charge equal to 50% if we are unable to fill the unused appointment.
Please call us right away to reschedule.![]()
What is your experience with animals and in grooming?![]()
I started working in veterinarian's offices in 1994 as an assistant, receptionist and non-licensed technician. I worked steadily for veterinarians in Washington and Indiana until 2004. Wanting to build a future that I could control for my self and my family I enrolled in a grooming course, completed it and immediately began grooming for a veterinary practice.
Now we fast forward several years and begin a new episode in our lives by opening our own shop. We offer full service dog and cat grooming, self service pet bathing and an ambitious retail outlet for specialty pet related items.
Can you use a shampoo supplied by my vet?![]()
Yes. We also carry specialty and medicated shampoos, which we can recommend for pets with problem skin/itching/redness etc. Please ask us for a recommendation based on your pet's skin/coat.

What if my dog is aggressive towards other dogs?![]()
Please let us know when booking your appointment. If necessary we may be able to schedule an appointment for a time that we do not have other dogs in the shop. We do not allow dogs to run loose together for the safety of all pets.
What if my pet is timid or nervous?![]()
Please let us know when you call to schedule your appointment. We can schedule your pet for a time when there is less activity and fewer animals in the shop. Most dogs are groomed straight through, allowing them to be picked up within a few hours as opposed to being left all day.
